Keymaker’s Daughter

Anya Stassiy

Synopsis: Aurora has always believed she was just an ordinary woman living an ordinary life. But when her estranged father goes missing, she is called in to run his company, and Aurora quickly discovers she is anything but ordinary. In fact, Aurora soon realizes she is living in a world where the gods of Olympus live among them, and her father is one of them. And so is she. Her father is the Keymaker, responsible for locking the titans in the underworld. Now, someone wants to unleash the titans and destroy the world, and the time to act is quickly approaching. Aurora must learn her father’s secrets, and fast, in order to stop it from happening. Life as she has always known it doesn’t exist, and now she has to decide who trust, and what her roll in the world is.

Rating: PG-15 for some sexual content and some violence. (Not terribly graphic, but could potentially be a little intense for younger teens)

This book may be a top contender for one of my most pleasant surprises of the year. I was slightly leery of it because it’s a fantasy novel– a genre I’m still kind of dipping my toes into– , and because the plot sounded kind of confusing . OH. MY. GOSH. Guys! I LOVED this book!

Now, I have to warn you. The beginning was a LITTLE on the slow side. But stick with it. I promise it all serves a purpose. And once it picks up, you will not want to put it down!

There were so many great things about this book! I loved the creativity of the characters and the plot. (What if the gods stepped down and lived among us?) Even with the slow start, I actually really liked the pacing of it. The characters were all fantastic, and I really enjoyed the way Aurora and Iraklis’s (in particular) characters developed.

Keymaker’s Daughter kept me intrigued from the beginning. I was completely engaged. I couldn’t wait to dive back into it every chance I got! It’s fun and pretty fast paced!

If you like fantasy (or, like me, haven’t read a lot of it), I would highly recommend this one!
