The Selection Series (The Selection, The Elite, The One)

Kiera Cass

Synopsis: It’s far in the future of the U.S. and things have drastically changed. After several wars and power exchanges, the US is now a monarchy. Prince Maxon is coming of age, and it is time for him to find his queen. As is the new custom, there is to be a Selection. Women of age from around the country can enter to be a part of this once in a lifetime opportunity to go from rags to riches. 35 ladies will be selected to live in the palace, be treated like royalty, and date Prince Maxon, until he selects his bride. For most it’s a dream come true. But for America Singer, being one of the Selected feels more like a nightmare. She doesn’t want to leave her home and family. Especially when rebel groups are regularly attacking, trying to take over power. America thinks she knows what to expect when she arrives at the palace, but she quickly finds herself questioning everything she thought to be true.

I am reviewing these as a set, because they really are so connected, I didn’t feel like I could review them one at a time. I absolutely love these books. This is my third time reading this series, and they are without question some of my all time favorite books.

I really have no complaints about these books. I love everything about them. They have everything that I want. There’s romance, there’s some action, a leading woman who will stand up for what she knows to be right. The Selection Series has me swooning, biting my nails, on the edge of my seat, and on the verge of tears.

I really love the way the characters develop over the course of the three books. Every single character has their own story and each one of them grows and changes. They are all utterly human. They are not flawless, or cookie cutter perfect. They are relatable. They say the wrong things and do the wrong things; they struggle with whether or not the made the right choice; they fight. I really don’t think there’s an exception to that in the entire series.

The Selection Series is technically a Young Adult series, but if you’re not a teen, don’t let that stop you from checking it out. If you enjoy romance, with a strong dose of action thrown in for good measure, and a strong female lead, this is a series for you!

They are relatively quick reads on their own, but they are especially fast because once you read them, you’re going to have a very hard time putting them down. I read them while I was on vacation, and finished all three books in about a week.

Be sure to check out this series. Book #1- The Selection, Book #2- The Elite and Book #3- The One.
