The Group

Octavia D. Mason

Synopsis: It’s just a normal day for Amiko, when she meets a handsome stranger. After a few awkward meetings, he convinces her to meet his friends, and introduces her to their job: Time traveling. And someone is moving through time causing trouble, and it’s up to The Group to stop him, and put things right.

Friends… I REALLY enjoyed this book! I have to be honest, I’m always a little bit nervous when a book is classified as “science fiction” because it’s not always a genre I enjoy. But I was fully and completely immersed in this book! Right from the beginning, I was totally intrigued. Now, I have to be honest, when Amiko first meets Dalvin, aka “Pretty Boy” (as he is jokingly referred to in the book) , he comes across a little stalker-ish, and it made me a little bit uncomfortable. But thankfully, that trait is acknowledged and discussed, and that made me feel better.

The Group is full of twists and turns that completely caught me off guard, right up to the end. I can’t even say it necessarily “kept me guessing”, because I didn’t even realize I was supposed to be guessing until, out of nowhere you’re hit with a plot twist! Never saw them coming. Not once. The only “predictable” elements were the things that I was hoping would happen, and I was so happy to see them play out.

I would have liked to see a little more of the relationships between The Group, and see their bond grow once Amiko joins, but as it is, the book doesn’t suffer. You get a very good sense of the bonds that are already established when she does join. The pacing is really good. I never felt like it was too slow. I would have enjoyed a LITTLE more detail in a couple of spots, but as I said before, the book doesn’t suffer as is.

The Group has most of my favorite elements of a good book: Action, mystery, romance, and suspense. I absolutely recommend this one! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
