Wow. This is a book that will make you think!
Everyone has different ideas about what spiritual warfare might look like, but I’m willing to bet most people think of it in terms of big things, like heavy temptation. The Screwtape Letters is a unique perspective on how the little things can make such a huge difference.
It’s a little hard at first to change your perspective. Screwtape often refers to God as “the Enemy” and Satan as “their father”. I’m so used to hearing it the other way around, that every time I read it, I had to stop to remember who they were talking about.
While I highly recommend this book, I would suggest taking it one letter at a time. The subject matter can be dark and rather heavy. I found that reading one letter a day made it a bit easier to process.
The Screwtape Letters will challenge the way you have always thought about demons and temptation, and also convict you. I really believe that everyone who reads it will be able to see themselves in it somewhere.
