Review: Born Standing Up
Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life
Steve Martin
Synopsis: Steve Martin recalls his childhood and early days as a performer.
Rating: PG-16– Some sexual content that parents may not feel comfortable with for younger teens.
I absolutely adore Steve Martin. I always have, and I always will. So when I found this book on Audible, I didn’t think twice about hitting the “purchase” button.
This book is everything I was hoping it would be, and listening to Steve Martin read it just made it that much better. I was a little sad it didn’t go further into his acting career, but that’s what I get for not paying attention to the details before buying a book, and I don’t fault the book for my error. The book is wonderful exactly as it is.
One of my favorite things about Born Standing Up is that Steve Martin doesn’t shy away from talking about his failures as a performer. He addresses them openly and I appreciate him all the more for it. He also talks about his family, particularly his complicated relationship with his father.
If you’re a fan of Steve Martin, definitely check out Born Standing Up. It’s smart, funny, honest, and full of heart– exactly what you’d expect from Steve Martin.
